! era, spring
Mara and Keito become acquainted in the beginning of their third year at Yumenosaki, when she is assigned to deliver the theater course’s budgeting paperwork and applications to the student council. His intimidating and serious demeanor leaves her hesitant to make small talk with him during their first meeting, especially with how busy he seems– something hard to miss with the amount of paperwork piled on his desk from the other courses. Keito brushes this off as being his usual, and nothing he can’t handle, before promptly shooing her out of the room as their task is complete.
Though as the unrest within the idol course seems to rise, it becomes clear that even the prideful vice-president holds his own disturbances from the uprising. And during her next visit to the student council room, she makes sure to bring up hearing of these “rumors” to him. His annoyance at being reminded of the predicament is clear, until Mara proposes to him a genuine offer of assistance– to report to him on the activities of the theater course until things calm down.
And, with all his exhaustion and stressors rampant, Keito relents (in his own way, telling Mara that she can do as she pleases, but he’ll still find a way to make his own patrols regardless of her help). The two of them fall into a bit of a routine, with Mara taking extra stops to the student council room to report on whatever he needed during the small amount of time he could spare. After the idol course’s rebellion comes to a conclusion at the end of April, Keito’s tensions lessen the slightest bit, but his workload continues to be a growing issue as he’s forced to pick up the pieces of the student council’s loss and the overturn of their ruling.
So, she keeps him company, even if their arrangement has officially dissolved. She starts to stick around whenever her own course has off time—until he threatens to kick her out himself. But, he does entertain her whims, often asking her questions about the theater course while he works.
! era, summer & fall
It's this way that Keito learns that Mara’s involvement in the course is not for acting, but backstage work for their performances (and extracurriculars in assisting the idol course's theater club). Though she admits that her different curriculum causes her a bit of disconnect from a majority of her classmates.
After a minute of contemplation, Keito offers to put in a good word for her so that she can have an opportunity to assist in stage managing the Restoration Live, a program that he, AKATSUKI, and some other classmates were planning. He frames it as an order, as (in Keito’s words,) it’s only natural for the vice-president to hold concern over the motivation of the academy’s students.
Despite never working backstage for an idol performance before she accepts his offer. And as promised, Mara is able to help with the live, where afterwards she thanks him graciously. Keito seems especially affected by her words, trying to brush off her words with responding that he only did what was expected of himself, and as thanks for helping him at the beginning of the year.
Mara continues to receive opportunities for working backstage with the idol course’s lives, though mostly for anything related to AKATSUKI. She and the idol course’s producer begin to collaborate as well, being able to help each other from the perspective of a fellow student.
Keito and Mara become closer as well, as her collaboration efforts and ideas help to enhance AKATSUKI’s performances. He finds himself enjoying her presence more and more, perhaps a bit too much, as even Kuro and Souma begin to sense a difference in his behavior towards her— and his vehement denial doesn’t seem to be fooling them just enough. And on the other side of this pair, Mara seems to be feeling the same, her feelings easily picked apart by her closest (and most exhausting) acquaintance from the idol course, Wataru.
! era, winter to spring 2 (graduation)
The two continue their routine as the season turns to winter and the New Year comes, only now with the added pestering of their closest classmates, and the hard to ignore tension growing between them. As graduation approaches, both Keito and Mara begin to focus on the end of the year activities for their respective courses, but find themselves distracted by one thing: how the other really feels about them.
During the planning stages of the AKATSUKI's portion of the Chocolat Festival, Mara inquires to Keito what his plans after graduation were. And shockingly, he responds with uncertainty. When he questions why she was wondering, he offers her the same question in return, to which she responds in doubt as well. But despite the unclear future, she expresses her wish to continue to be friends with him wherever life takes them after Yumenosaki.
Keito is surprised by her words, and that she hadn’t grown tired of his demeanor. Mara admits herself to being stubborn, and even if she did find him harder to talk to at the beginning of the year, he would always let her return to talk to him, and she'd become happy to come see him.
Something about the way she describes their past months together causes him to question her once more, to which she responds:
"I'm sure it hasn't been that hard to pick up on, right? I'm not... the best at hiding these kinds of things."
Albeit indirect, Keito understands the meaning behind her words– a confession. As best he can without stumbling, he confirms her words, before hesitantly moving forward as they are interrupted, leaving the conversation hanging in the air.
After a week of steeling himself, Keito meets with Mara once more as she completes her final paperwork delivery of the year. Asking her to step out of the student council office with him, he invites her for a walk through the school grounds. And its here where finally, he offers his own reciprocation to her. His stoic demeanor deteriorates as he overexplains and continues with a tense apology for taking too long, but before he can continue further, Mara tells him with a smile that she accepts his feelings, too.
Their romantic relationship is slowly launched from this point on, and with most of the responsibilities of the school being slowly passed onto the underclassmen, Keito is given a bit of downtime before their graduation ceremony, perfect for them to test the waters of their new relationship. And after their time at Yumenosaki comes to an end, they continue to spend their post-grad months together, before the next chapter of their lives begin.
!! era
With the help of Keito and Wataru, Mara is offered a place in Ensemble Square by the graduating student council president and founding president Eichi. And by July with the company’s grand opening, she is employed as a stage technician, specializing in (assistant) stage management. While she is able to help with various units, she enjoys being able to work with AKATSUKI the most.
After the establishment of the theater troupe Dramatica, Mara and Keito are scouted by Wataru to join, offering them both the position of director and scriptwriter respectively. The two of them end up working in close contact and collaboration to bring each production to life, where Keito also ends up taking on the role of her unofficial assistant director when he has the time to participate.
